How to quickly get up and running with Kritik

Managing Courses

Create a course

Click on the create course card in the Course Lobby. To access the course lobby at any time click on the Kritik Logo in the Top Left.

Course Details

Fill out your course details.

Finished Creating a course

Once you have finished creating your course it will show up in your active courses list. To enter your course click on the course title.

Edit a course

To edit, delete or archive a course click the 3 dots in the bottom right of the course card.

View Course Details

To view your course details at any time click the icon in the left navigation that contains your course Initials

Managing Courses

Create a course

Click on the create course card in the Course Lobby. To access the course lobby at any time click on the Kritik Logo in the Top Left.

Fill out your course details.

Finished Creating a course

Once you have finished creating your course it will show up in your active courses list.

Edit a course

To edit, delete or archive a course click the 3 dots in the bottom right of the course card.

View Course Details

To view your course details at any time click the icon in the left navigation that contains your course Initials

Managing Students

To enroll, manage, view and remove students, select the student icon on the left navigation.

Invite Students to your course

Enroll students by entering a list of emails separated by commas or by line-breaks. To do this, click the Invite Students button on the upper right side of the Student Manager page.

After you send your invite

Invited students will show up in the Pending tab in the student manager.

Enrolled Students

When your student has succussfully enrolled they will show up in the Pending Tab, as shown below.

Remove a student

To remove a student from your course, click the 3 dots icon at the end of their student record as shown below.

Removed students stay in your list but are highlighted red.

Creating Activities

To create an activity, enter your course by clicking the title on the course card.

Then navigate to the activities tab in the left navigation

Then click on the "Create Activity" button in the top right of the Activity page.

To create an activity fill out the fields shown below.

Ask your students to

Select an activity template to use as the basis for your activity.

Title

The title you wish to use for your activity. It should be something your students will be able to recognize and understand.

Instructions

Instruction your students on how to perform the activity. You can also attach a file with more detailed instructions.

Objective

The learning objective of your activity.

Attache files

You can attach any resources your students would need or find helpful to complete your activity.

Rubric

Use an existing rubric, customize an existing rubric or create your own. See the Activity Rubric Section for more details.

Grading

An Activity can be graded in two ways: Pass level and Numeric.

Activity Templates

Kritik offers four activity templates that are explicitly designed with the structure of Bloom’s Taxonomy. These are only suggestive templates, and may be customized. Each template accompanied with sample instructions, objectives and rubrics.

Blooms Taxonomy

Our activity templates focus on three highest levels of cogitative thinking from Bloom's Taxonomy; Analysis, Evaluation, and Creation

Create Question

This template asks students to formulate a higher order thinking question based on reading comprehension. This activity aims to evaluate the question’s Richness, Complexity, Scope, and Relevance.

Create an Essay

This template prompts students to write an argumentative essay based on a controversial opinion/subject. The rubric criteria includes: Clarity of Thoughts, Accuracy, Creative and Critical Thinking, Source and Evidence.

Create Content to teach Peers

Students are asked to teach content to their peers in a way that promotes higher content retention among their peers. Students are evaluated based on Organization, Relevance, Clarity, and Knowledge of Content.

Creative Communication

This template asks students to communicate course content in a creative way, (i.e. through  illustration, infographic item, summary table, short video, animation, or anything that will help convey the message faster or make it more engaging than the plain text). Students are evaluated by Organization, Knowledge, Text and Readability, Creativity and Visual Aids.

Activity Rubrics

How to create and manage Activity Rubrics in Kritik.

Edit Rubric

To edit a rubics text contents, simply double click the text box you wish to edit. Press enter when you are done filling out the text box’s contents.

Add Criteria

To add a criteria, click on the “+ Criteria” button on the lower left corner of the rubric box. A new criteria bar will appear with default text that you may customize.

Delete Criteria

To delete criteria, select the criteria that you wish to remove. Then, on the lower left corner of the rubric box, click on the “- Selected Criteria” button.

Add a Level

To add a level to your rubric. Click the "+ Level" button in the bottom right corner.

Remove a Level

You can only remove the last level in the rubric. To remove the last level, click the "- Last Level" button in the bottom right corner.

Clear your Rubric

If you want to start a rubric from scratch, you can clear your rubric by clicking the "Clear Cells" button in the bottom right corner

Save a Rubric

To save a rubric, turn on the save rubric toggle as shown below.

After you turn the toggle on, you are prompted to enter the name of the rubric you want to save. Your rubric will save when you create your activity.

How to load a rubric

To load a rubric, click the "Load a saved rubric" button at the top left of the rubric and select the rubric you would like to load from the dropdown menu.

What are MASTER rubrics?

Master Rubric are templates that contain many criteria. You can use these criteria as the building blocks for a custom rubric.

Scheduling an Activity

After you have created an activity, you can schedule it by clicking on the activity in the activity list. Then click the schedule activity button in the top right corner as shown below.

Add the dates

Use the schedule activity form to select the start and due dates for your activity.

After you schedule your activity, you will see the schedule on the right hand side of the activity as shown below

Running Activities

How to administer and monitor Activities. All activities go through four core stages: Create, Evaluate,  Feedback, and Finalizing. During each stage you can monitor Activities through the Activity List page and the Activity Page.

You can see the progress of an activity by clicking the activity tab in your courses navigation on the left hand side.

You can track the progress of an activity, what stage it is in, and when the stage ends as shown below.

% Complete

Percentage of students to finish that stage of the Activity

Stage Label

Current Stage the activity is in

Due Date

Shows how much time until the current stage is due.

Flags and disputes

If a student flags an evaluation or disputes a grade it will show up in the list as a red Icon

Reviewing Student Progress

During any of the stages of an activity you can see a students progress and get more detailed information about an activity by clicking on an activity on the Activities Page.

Activity Page

At the bottom of the Activity Page you can see student creations as shown below.

Creation List

The Creation List is a list of all the students participating in the activity. During each stage of an activity the important details are bubbled up the creation list, such as Flags, Disputes, and missed evaluations.

View Student work

To view a students work click on their name in the Creation List. Then you can see all the work they have done, their grade, all the evaluations they have received and feedback they have given.

Comment on Creation

Once you click on the “Comment on Creation” option, you can enter your comments in the text box and it will be sent to the student.

Edit a Grade

From time to time you may want to intervene and edit a students grade. To do so, you click the "Edit Grade" button and select the grade you feel is appropriate.

After you have successfully edit a grade you will see a green check beside the students name. This check tells you and the student that their grade was modified by you.

Compare to class average

If you would like to see how a student performed compared to the class, click the "View Class Average" Button.
